Born in Brampton and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, Melissa spent her childhood dancing. She is a graduate of Element Dance Arts, where she trained and competed for over ten years. Throughout her competitive career, she specialized in Ballet, Lyrical, Jazz, and Contemporary, developing a strong technical foundation and a deep appreciation for the art of dance.
Melissa has had the privilege of performing The Nutcracker with Ballet Jörgen Canada, Niagara Ballet School, and The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra. She has also successfully completed all of her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet examinations through Advanced 2.
During her time at Element Dance Arts, Melissa participated in the studio’s Assistant Teacher Program and, in her final year, trained as an Apprentice Teacher. She has spent many years working as a summer camp instructor and has gained valuable teaching experience as a substitute teacher. These experiences helped build her passion for mentoring and inspiring young dancers.
Melissa is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Dance at York University, one of Canada’s leading post-secondary dance programs. She received an on-the-spot acceptance during her audition, recognizing her talent and dedication as an artist. Her studies include Ballet, Contemporary/Modern, Choreography, Dance History, Dance Production, and Performance, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of both the artistic and educational aspects of dance.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Melissa is proud to be one of the five founding members of the York University Pom Team. Working alongside her fellow founders, she helped build the team from the ground up and contributed to leading it to its first-ever competitive season in 2026.
Further demonstrating her commitment to dance education, Melissa has been accepted into the prestigious Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School, one of the country’s most respected institutions for dance training and teacher development. Beginning her studies in Fall 2027, she looks forward to further refining her teaching practice and continuing to grow as an educator.
Melissa is thrilled to be a member of the Element Dance Arts teaching faculty. She is passionate about fostering confidence, creativity, and a love of dance in her students, and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation of dancers.
